I was at the school around the mid 60's, played in the seniors 2nd eleven and the Gerry Mitchell was the manager. Tony Macis was the keeper for the senior 1st team and an excellent player, although correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure he had terrible eyesight.

I remember Mr Duddy the English teacher who took my English class of no hopers and taught us with most of the class achieving a pass in the Higher English exam.

Is that theeee Boaby McGuinness who played in the 1971 Scottish/Maley trophy team? If so hello again after all these years. I attended the old school from '67 to '73. Attended lessons between football studies/games. Ahh the memories Martin McCormack (french), Hiram, Fuzzy etc. Met Jimmy Friel a couple of weeks ago he looks younger than me. Best wishes to you Bob.

I have looked at the site fairly regularly since I first came across it and two things stand out:-
a) there are no messages from teachers saying what a joy, and privilege, it was to teach us, and
b) although there have been posters from the 50's/60's - Hello, Gerry, I too remember that Saturday at Goldenacre; I was last in the Mile - no-one has mentioned Audrey, who dominated our daily thoughts in a way which few teachers did.
Strange that.

Greetings from Denver, Colorado.

I have fond memories of my years at Our Lady's High School where I was a student in the early '50's. Some of the highlights of my years there involve singing in the choir, especially during the coronation year.

Although my sister lives in East Kilbride, I had no knowledge that the school still existed until I googled the website this morning. Glad to see that you are there.

Went to OLHS from 1977-1982, then left to join our Armed Forces. Spent a number of years out of the area, Surrey and then Shropshire. Been back in the area since 2001. Great to take a trip down memory lane and as mentioned some great teachers back in the day Gerry Dempsey, Mr McNaughton, Mr Lunny, Miss Boyle, Mr Knighton, Ronnie Mathieson, Mr Quinn. Especially remember the P.E. department as my favourite place to be, still running, cycling, boxing and keeping fit to this day. Would be great to see some old photos from this time. Attended 1963 to 1969.A fab school which was ahead of its time in allowing subject choice.I spent many happy hours in the music room on the back stairs playing the violin and listening to music.
I remember a geography teacher who was more interested in belting his class than teaching music cant remember the name.Iremember playing with mercury in my hands and spilling it on the desk-wouldnt be able to do that now.
The student french teacher was fab for the few weeks she was there.
one of the few back then who went to university, now leading a number of companies and mad MBE last year.I remember martin Wylupeck,Gorden Miller,Mario Zamboninie,? Miginness.

I attended OLHS from 68 to 72 and have some great memories starting on the first day when Mr Freel belted the whole class for being too noisy. However, the school had some great teachers in particular Big Hiram - I can still see him coming out the staff entrance and running towards a group of us to ask what questions we tackled in the O Level and what had we answered. It was then you realised that here was a guy who wanted us all to succeed. Another mention for wee George Healy for igniting an interest in a subject I previously knew nothing about and Wullie Duddy because although we sometimes gave him a hard time he was the only teacher that volunteered to take the class (that included us lot from Viewpark) on a school trip to Ayr.

I was at Our Lady's 1954-1960.Great times!! I played in the senior team which won the Secondary Championship Football Shield at Hampden 1960 and ran the second leg in the relay team which won the Scottish Schools Senior Sprint Relay at Goldenacre Edinburgh the same year! The other team members were Jim Friel , Frank McCabe and Jimmy Rooney. What a team. They had never heard of us in Edinburgh and we were the only team sporting badges on our running vests (cheap T shirts actually) specially made by the Arts Department because the school couldn't afford fancy gear! The late and much loved Hugh Naughton was our mentor and he lives so fondly in my memory. Best school in the world!

Great reading about all the memories of OLHS ! Big Hiram ( Ouch !) Wee Ronnie (Ouch ! ) Wee Eva (Music teacher ... !! ) Remember the day when big Hiram belted the whole French class ( 6 each !! ) for being rowdy/uncontrollable really with the gorgeous French student teacher (circa 1973 in the Airbles road building !!) ... Footie at lunchtime (Mossend v Viewpark) at the wee sandy pitch on Airbles Road !! Mossend won most days !!
Anyone remember the "sit in" (in the quad) during the miners strike when we had no heating ? Mr White sorted us all out then !! Can still remember the school register from 1b !! We had to listen to it every period for a bloody year !! Miss Gormley (Latin !! WOW ! ) Accounts ... Wee George !! His fault I'm an accountant !! Mr Duddy, Wee Fuzzy, Mad Mac , Wee Heap ..... Mr Friel ... Father Burns ... Looking back, we had some great teachers (and sore hands !! ... especially in French !) .. LOL !
