Hi Frank Duffin and thank you for that mention. I was thrilled someone remembered! Ziggy was such a wonderful character. The song from the school dance was of course The Jean Genie. My heart beats faster just thinking about it!
I remember lots of those names you mention on the 2B role so I think we were in the same year.
Best wishes.

Great site. Saw a message from Gerry Collins. I remember you being drunk on Scotsmac or some such stuff back in the day! Glad you have done well. Also sorry to read about John O’Neil. Nice guy. Role from 2B in 1971 was Baxter Bogan Burns Carroll Clark Collins Doherty Dolan Donnachie Dougal Duffin Fulton Gallagher Harvey Jordan Kelly Kinsella Laverty McCulloch McDonald McGrevey McNally Mariani Melvin Miller Murphy O’Neil Paton Reynolds Sewell Skiffington Smith Sneddon Stewart and Welsh. I still keep in touch with John Welsh and was a very close pal of Gerry Donnachie until he lost his life to pancreatic cancer last year. I set up a page to raise money to fight the disease. Suggested target was £1400 which we beat but I set £5757 as a target as that was his date of birth. He was a top guy. We were a lucky generation. Got a fabulous education from some real characters. Fuzzy Neilon was a star, wee Heap, Ronnie Mathieson (crap jokes), Peter Mallon, and my favourite, Jimmy Kelly the white haired maths teacher. These guys and others helped to form each and every one of us. I also saw a post from John Kelly, I think a year below me. I still remember the school dance where he jumped up on stage and danced and mimed to Ziggy Stardust. Great times!

No updates from 10th August to 1st April 2018 - is there a problem with the guestbook?
Replied on: 9:26am 16-04-2018
Thanks for your message, Mr Hannaway. There has only been one message in this time, so perhaps people have moved to other sources - I know of a Facebook group for example. If we decide to close this guestbook down, we will of course post a message on the guestbook to notify those who use it.

Jim Tyrrel from County Kildare asks if anyone attended the Rolling Stones concert in Hamilton in 1964. I can confirm that OLHS was well represented that night since myself and Eddie Conner (both from Burnbank) and my brother in law Jim Boyle from Hamilton were members of the support band "Beat Unlimited" that night at the Chantinghall Hotel.
I attended OLHS from 1952-1957 and the Burnbank contingent then included Joe Douglas,Jim Cox,Jim Gaffney,John MacDonald and Jim Jordan.
Teachers I remember included Paddy Welsh,"Charlie"Tully, Hugh Naughton,Betty Wilson,Hugh Clifford,Wee Willie Reid,Black Jake Carlin and Red Jake Carlin,"Stinker"MacMillan and "Carey" Owen.
Celtic players Billy McNeil, Bobby Murdoch and John Cushley were all pupils at that time.
Great school and great memories!

In OLHS for 6 years - 5 years Airbles Rd and 1 at Dalzell Drive. Class year will mostly be 60 this year so time for nostalgia. In London for over 30 years so I'm English now. By all means get in touch if you were around in those days. You may remember me as having Bowie haircut. Now I have none but it's easier to style.

Just found this site. Attended OLHS 1969 to 1973. Remember teachers like Sean Flafferty; Wee Heep; Pete Mallen; George Heally - Accounts - great guy; Carr - chemistry - not so great guy. Had a blast and got drunk at a few dances/ days out. Cant remember just how good looking Miss Bogan was - any pictures?? Class role included names such as: Baxter; Burns; Collins (me obviously); Docherty; McNally; O'Neill (Johnny - God rest him); Miller; Reynolds; to name but a few. Now working as a Public Sector auditor - wee George did me well. Speaking of good looking teachers. Remember a Latin teacher who wore short skirts - Miss Gormley, I think. Failed Latin badly.

Enjoyed reading through the postings. Was pupil at OLHS from 1954 to 1960 at Airbles Rd. My older brothers Patrick and Jim are also former pupils. Have many happy memories of those days. Left Scotland in 1972 for Montreal, Canada. Moved to the States in 1977 and lived in Atlanta, San Diego, Atlanta again then moved to Pittsburgh in 1992 where I still reside. Good wishes to all and hello to those old friends still out there - here's to you all!

Was at OLHS 1974-9.

Margaret Ferns, Christine Corry, Julie Smith, Monica Darroch, Paul Glackin and Higgy are among those lost. Gerry Moore doing great in Manhattan. Jim Scott in Sydney and I think John McCourt in Melbourne in ice-cream van. Think Peter Clark might have gone, sadly. Hope fun is abundant! ❤️ Paul";
