Hi all! Just wanted to ask...my dad was john Dempsey and went to st Josephs in blantyre.
He was in the band the Livingstone's. Just wondered if anyone could share some memories of him for me. I lost my beloved dad in 1999 to cancer.

Much love and thanks xx

Phil McCaffrey - I saw your post and responded in August but have not seen any official posts for the majority of that month. I was friends with your brother John when him and I worked at McKeown's. When I was in the royal HK Police we had a guy called Bob Toal who was at OLHS in the same year I believe as you. He retired from the Royal HK Police and not long afterwards died

I attended Our Lady's High school from 1973 -78. I was one of its first co-ed students and attended the school when it had its photo taken as the largest Catholic school. My two brothers also attended this school John and Kenny. They both played good football.
I loved my time at Our Lady's High and have many fond memories. My favourite teacher was Mr Lavell, my Latin teacher. I was given so many opportunities including sport, social, spiritual, educational.
It was the beginning of my senior education and allowed me to do so much more!!
Anyone interested in a reunion July 2016 from the classes of 1976-78 please get in touch !

Great site. Was at OLHS from 1970 until 1975. Started off in blue blazers at Airbles, then had the linkup with St Joe's in 73 I think. Then we moved to DL Drive for my 5th and final year. Remember Jim Keegan and I'm sure Monica Rae from Fuzzy's history class. I have also run into AnnMarie Clark from Craigneuk and now Canada over the years.
We had four first year classes when I started and we were in 1D with Wullie Duddy as our teacher. The roll usually went Agnew, Aiton, Allan, Burns, Burns, Bradley, Campbell are you paying attention...
The sit-in protest during the miners strike rings a bell. I also remember my first encounter with the lads from St Joe's was watching them trying to manhandle a desk out of the window in Hiram's class. At that point I realised that the OLHS I knew was changing.
I don't know if anyone is on Friends Reunited, but I have posted some photos on there that I took during the Latin class trips to the Roman Walls back in 1974. They made me laugh

Hi John,I do remember you and Peter O'Brian and most of the names you mentioned as we were all in 1c and 2c together.I settled in Glasgow after working abroad for a few years having met my Glaswegian wife in Italy! I'm now retired and spent a strange day visiting surviving aunts and uncles and my mum.Needed a few glasses of wine on my return home! Doesn't seem 40 years since we were in Airbles Road.Just back from post retirement trip to South America and heading to New England and Cape Cod next year.Hope you're enjoying your life,
Cheers,
Gerry Walsh.

Hi Everyone!

Like a few on here, I just stumbled upon the site and for the last hour or so have enjoyed reading many of the posts herein......I went to Our Lady's from St Brigid's,Newmains back in 1970 and left at the end of 1974. I am happy to say that I had a great time there and made many friends - most (but not all),I have lost touch with over the years. I look back on my time at OLHS with only the fondest of memories... I have always had a great affinity for the school and feel lucky to have attended it with the classmates and staff who were there during my time....best wishes to everyone !

Just come across the FP site and just reading some of the old teachers names brought back some great memories. Really did not appreciate what they all did for us at the time. I was there between 64 - 70 and can still remember playing soccer on the ash parks (gravel rash not funny even now) and badminton in the upper gym with Thomas Kay, Kevin Moore and Thomas Andrews. Even had wee Murray the maths teacher play on a Friday night. Living now in Melbourne, married Maureen Baird from St Aidans, now have two great grown up kids and four grandchildren. Owe a lot to that school.
