Hi John Gordon! Yes, of course I remember you and all of the late Fri and Sat nights watching horror movies! It's such a shame to hear that you couldn't wait to leave Our Lady's High; I absolutely LOVED my time there! It not only gave me a first class education, but also moulded me into a decent human being; teaching me about honesty, integrity, good morals and ethics, a sense of fairness and a loathing for injustice. I literally wouldn't be the person I am today without having gone to Our Lady's! Smyllum was a totally different matter, however: I couldn't wait to get out of that place! Thank God it closed in 1989! Yes, I do remember all of the people you mentioned; as well as fond memories of Jamie Gillespie, who gave me my first kiss! Thank you for your kind words and God bless you too. I sincerely hope that life has treated you well since then, John, and that you are happy and healthy today? I usually get back to Glasgow at least a couple of times a year a d kt would be great if we could meet up some time and catch up, if you have the time/inclination You can reach me at my office on (+47)69308880 if you want to get in touch; and then I would be happy to give you my email address and further details. Don't be put out by my speaking Norwegian on the answering machine by the way - just wait for the beep and do your thing Take care everyone a d all tbe best for 2015! Hugs from Theresa (Tolmie) McGrane in Norway

Hi Phil ,
I remember you played on the Inch football pitch in Perth ,approx. 1956/7. You were the inventor of the half back heal; I was very very impressed .I demonstrated it to my two granddaughters and they seem to think its a Scottish variation of River Dance. The team you played in was certainly a GREAT team.
There was a rumour about your goal keeper and his girlfriend. Apparently she didn't understand that goals scored during the kick in ,at the start of the game , didn't count. So to avoid upsetting her he asked his team mates, just to pass the ball back gently, so he could pick it up easily.
I played in the senior team a year after you with ,mixed success.

Very Best Wishes Gerry

Great memories at OLHS, should have tried harder! Although 28 years now in the RAF has taken me all over the world. Had fantastic teachers, Sean Fluff Flafferty (RIP) Miss Bogan, stunning, Mad Mac, Bonnyman, Durkin etc. All characters in their own way. The school had character and I was proud to attend. Met lots of good people. On facebook under Micky Shuel

To John Maguire, I have photocopied your post and forwarded it to my children; I will be forever in your debt.
I was in touch with Joe Blair (Class photo - with Mr Ablett - back row, ) this year.
To Phil McCaffrey, I saw the first game v Holyrood but I thought the controversy was because the schools refused to play the replay at Cliftonville and wanted to play the match at Blantre Vics ground. However, the 1960 side put the record straight.

Hi there
Class of '74 graduate now living in New York. I just came across photo of me receiving class prize, 1st year, from Mr. Tully as Rector, Father Burns as Chaplain in old Mothrewell Town Hall. Rekindled many fond memories of my schooling at a great educational establishment. Ronnie Mathieson was Math Teacher, Mr White was English Teacher, Mr Lavelle for French, Mr. Friel for Gym, Mr Lunny for Latin. Blue blazer and the old blue&white badge "Meta Sou, Maria, Nikhsomen"

I remember you Phil McCaffrey. I was friends with your brother John. We both worked part time for McKeown's. When I was in the Royal HK Police there was a guy there from Coatbridge who was at school in your era. His name was Bob Toal. Unfortunately he did not last long after he retired and passed away a few years ago.

Anyone still around from 1940 - 45. I was in the ATC Squadron at school and played for all the football teams at each level. We won several trophy's but alas, no photographs. We were beaten one year in the semi final of the Scottish Schools Shield, at Lesser Hamden by St. Patricks, Dumbarton. I remember a few names but could probably expand that by intercommunication with any contemporary. I remember the old school with fondness but didn't appreciate it at the time !!!

I return to this site like a salmon returning to its spawning ground as the love/hate relationship with OLHS endures. Thus I recognise a few names from my servitude from 1954 to 1961. I see Dan Millar of Bellshill, the gravel-pit fisherman, Peter Dowds the blonde-haired Adonis with his quiff hanging over his eyes, Gerry Heaney and Gerry Monaghan, footballing members of the Rutherglen mafia that descended by steam-train each morning at Motherwell station, and laid-back Jim Harkins from East Kilbride who sat behind me in Mr Ablett's class where I couldn't remember the Lord's Prayer when leading the class in payers. Naturally, I got the belt.

I was at Our Lady's in the 50s. Remember most of the guys. Played in teams from junior to senior, so somebody might remember me. We won the Lanarkshire and the Anderson cup in 1955. Also played in the infamous shield final of 1957, against Holyrood. Both schools were banned from Scottish Schools football for refusing to play the replay at Blantyre Vics park. Therein lies a tale.
The team in that final was Bill Dornan, Owenie Oates, Phil Lynch, John Martin, Billy McNeill, John McConnaghie, Hugh McCabe, John Logan, John McLaughlin, Phil McCaffrey and Mick Carley

Would love to hear from anyone from that era

Must be getting old as all the names and faces from 71-76 and beginning to sneak into my sleeping and daydreaming moments.... Happy days , although not realised at the time...and some of the best teachers around , who knew how to draw a belt as they swaggered in their capes , like gunslingers with the belt tucked neatly over their shoulders ..trying to keep the cream of all boy higher education in line. Sadly one such teacher Mr Shaun Flafferty passed earlier this month.

Hi to everyone

Hello Keiran Quinn....I went through school with your father,Hugh, and we both played in the "Senior Shield in 1949;we won against St.Mungo's Academy on a replay. The replay was at Shawfield, home to Cylde Athletic, not Lesser Hampden,The following year we won against Whitehill Academy, and your uncle John played at outside left,You will find it strange that no photographs were taken on th 1949 occasion, but one was taken of the1950 team. Please convey my best wishes to Hugh and John.
