Bideford, North Devon.- Attanded Our Lady's High School from 1952 to 1956.
Left at age of 16 with no qualifications. Served with Royal Air Force for 12 years. Recognised the importance of the education I'd been given at OLHS, and thankfully built on this during my career with BP and major petrochemical engineering contractors around the globe. Now finding life too quiet!!!

Alpago, Italy- For Charlie Docherty, the French teacher you describe was Mr. D'Inverno, aka "Wee Dunnie".
For Frank Myer, the violin maker was Mr Gliori, a good man.
My own, my only, memory of the Rector was that he once anounced from the balcony that we could continue to wear our "Burberry"s during assembly if it was raining. It was only when I moved to London that I saw the irony in the remark.

Wollongong, Australia- A survivor of OLHS from 1954 - 1961(repeated third year). It was a mixture of 'Dotheboys Hall' and a Catholic seminary with the indiscriminate use of the belt and frequent prayer sessions. Learned all about heaven, hell and everlasting life but didn't get much of an education. Friendships with fellow students were strong and enduring. Got an education later in life and became a teacher dedicated to being kind to my students after the example of Black Jake Carlin, the most gentle and humane teacher at OLHS at the time.

Surrey- Went to OLHS 1955-61 and then to GU. I still have memorabilia including school mags and class photos. I think I even have a full set of my 'jotters' (work books). They could be used to prove that educational standards have risen! The teachers' nicknames have stuck better than their real names but I remember these ones: Alex Boyle MA Oxon (Head, called 'Rector' in those days; we knew him as 'Tapper' because he came out and tapped the balcony with his key to signal that the assembled ranks in the yard below him were straight enough to proceed to class; we never saw him except for that), John Tully (Head of English; inevitably, he was called 'Charlie'), Paddy Lynch (Head of History; just called 'Paddy' because he was popular), Hugh Naughton (Head of PE; called 'Wee Shuggie'. I could go on but some nicknames were less complimentary. This generation had seen service in WW11. A maths teacher had been a Japanese POW and it still showed. A French teacher had been a fighter pilot. So he ran the model plane club. Our art teacher (Mr Gliore?) did not teach, he carved violins at the back of the class. Mr Xaviour Seppi taught me the violin, leaving a thick shower of cigarette ash over me. I don't mind hearing from anybody whose OLHS dates overlap with mine.

The Quither Especially the PE teacher mmmmm. Loved the PE Dept, Ill Hammer you boy sutcliff used to say. Mr Black made a great brew. And Mr Flaffert was a little light on the loafers!!.

Uddingston- Shoogar.....all change....was that the school I went to 59 -63....different blazer badge, female teachers, and " girls aloud ". Definitely went downhill when they let the women in !
Now who were they...Chalmers was the tech teacher who got victimised by some pupils.....Porkie was the maths teacher who had lost the faith....the Beatnik was the new maths teacher who ran concurrent with Porkie, but he did help out those who really wanted to catch up. O'Neill was the headie....Twala was the geography teacher extrodinaire !!.....Big John was the science teacher....and lo and behold...one of the class he slagged off finished up with better science qualifications than he ever held....Can anybody remember the wee french teacher......always dressed in the formal batman cloak, with oo la la mooooostache.......

Melbourne- Hi all, had great times there from 1966 to 71, brilliant school team won the Scottish and the Maley and had some top players. Favourite teacher Fuzzy Neilon, but remember fondly Big Hiram, and Mr Lunny, remember with fear Mr Mallon and Big Joe. Mallon could manage to get you right up your wrist in the exact same place every time with the belt, absolute nightmare, and the trick in Big Joes class was dodging the chalk or at some times the duster when he chucked them at you. Great times and a great rivalry with Dalziel High

currently Hampshire- Was it a good school? Yes it was. Great teachers in thier own way, who can I remember? Bonnyman, top guy, Jimmy and Tony quinn, dedicated teachers, Miss Bogan mmm say no more! Burke the maths guy, weird! Jimmy Friel, the quithers, white, all legends in their own way. Met some mad people and spent 5 years with them, shaped my life. Great times

Devon UK- Attended 62 until 66/67? Can remember Ivan Camelli blowing up the chemistry lab and nearly poisoning us all with gas. All great fun! Hiram was our excellent Geography teacher and Lunny was our Latin teacher. 'Wee Heap' did his best to teach us Physics. I remember Robert Lunny as the top pupil. I enjoyed my time there and can remember each winter the lads from Shotts and the lads from Viewpark being late because the buses were held up iin the snow. A good school.

COUNTY KILDARE, IRELAND- I WAS AT OLHS FROM 67 TILL 72 ENJOYED PLAYING IN THE FOOTBALL TEAMS,MY FAVOURITE. TEACHERS WERE JIM FRIEL AND RAYMOND LUNNY WHO WERE GOOD MEN. RETIRED AT 50 AND LIVED IN SPAIN FOR A FEW YEARS BEFORE MOVING 2 YEARS AGO TO CELBRIDGE IN CO. KILDARE.THERE WAS A HOST OF CHARECTERS MOSTLY FROM MY HOMETOWN OF VIEWPARK AND I HAVE FOND MEMORIES OF THE OLD SCHOOL

Cork- Pupil from 71 to 75. I remember many of the teachers that Tony Quinn does including his namesake. My most vivid memories are of Donald McIntyre, a man that helped shape my life. A great place to go to school. The teachers there taught me how to think. Something I am eternally grateful for.

Italy- Our Lady's High was a great school...unfortunately i can't remember any of the teacher's....So i hope to find somone if they remember me to help me out.These are the few names that i remember who attened the school:Valerie Mcgoldrick,Alice Mcgoldrick,Gary,Mark and Pamela Hagadon,Alice and Tom Mcgill.I left in 1979...mum died and went to stay in Glasgow.When i left i was 12 yrs old i am now 43 and live in Italy.....If there is any old class mates and old friends that remember me....I would very much like to hear from you.Thanks Luana
