Well, hasn't Our Lady's come on well!! I was there in 1958-64 and I well remember Dan Millar, Guillermo Gray and Alec "Stoat" McGregor, Principal of Modern Languages and the most sympathetic and effective teacher I ever had. The present staff and pupils seem to be trying hard to keep up standards, but I bet they can't play football across the quad using balls of newspaper and string like in Airbles Street.
Our Lady's (which I think was formerly named "Motherwell Roman Catholic Higher Grade School" was in fact mixed until 1939; the girls due to start that and subsequent years were sent to Elmwood Convent School, Bothwell, but those who started in/before 1938 were allowed to finish their schooling at Our Lady's. Two of my aunts were OLHS pupils and a third was in the 1939 intake at Elmwood. In the 30's Our Lady's had an annex in, I think, Muir Street, and I think Airbles Street was overcrowded by then.
Oh, and you might add to the list of prominent Alumni Professor Tom Devine, the renowned historian and author; he was in the year ahead of me.

Any other adoring fans, please feel free to do so as well.

(I started at OLHS in 1965 when it was still all male. My grades were low enough without female distraction!)

Message for Dan Tait Miller, Mitcham, Surrey
Greetings, Dan!

It was good to read your comment about Mr. Mc Gregor. He was, indeed, a fine teacher, very encouraging, and very kind to me, especially as I was a sort of "guest" opposition student at Our Lady's.

Dalziel H.S. at the time did not teach Spanish, hence my taking it at your excellent school. I recall getting along fine with Mr. McGregor and the lads in the class. Great memories.

I live in the beautiful Commonwealth of Virginia, U.S.A. It would be great to hear from you.

Yours aye,

Guillermo

A mixture of truly fond and somewhat bleak memories of my old highschool. I started off at the Airbles road building in 1975 and moved up to the new building. Some great teachers who truly inspired me and helped me to achieve a lot in my life. Not the least being Charile Higgins-English and Mr.Philips Chemistry ( I can still recite most of the periodic table from memory!!) Who says rote learning has no value. Would be great to hear from anyone who was in the 1g cohort and can stimulate my old brain cells with memories of teachers and other pupils. Thanks
